The President of the Republic thanked the Ambassador of the Russian Federation22.08.2006
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation Konstantin Provalov made a farewell visit to President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg. The President of the Republic thanked the ambassador for his contribution in introducing his home country in Estonia and diversifying contacts between the two countries.
President Rüütel found that Konstantin Provalov's work as the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Estonia since January 2001 till today has been content-rich and versatile. ''You have developed the relations between our two countries as much as possible and have helped to take them to a constructive basis. You also had to fulfill the honorable role of Doyen of the Diplomatic Corp in Estonia. Herewith I wish to express my appreciation for your work,'' the Estonian Head of State said.
''All through history the relations between Estonia and Russia have been multifaceted and rather complicated. Legacy of the past has often set barriers for us to move forward, but we are convinced that with common efforts, through positive cooperation experience in various fields, we can move towards constructive partnership and good-neighborly cooperation,'' the President of the Republic noted.
In recognition of the Ambassador's services, President Rüütel conferred on him the 1st class Order of the Cross of Terra Mariana.
The Ambassador of the Russian Federation thanked the President of the Republic for the honor bestowed on him, also for the personal contribution of the Estonian Head of State to the advancement of relations between the two states. In the words of Ambassador Provalov his term of office in Estonia has been long but interesting. ''During this time I got acquainted with many nice people and met many smiles. While developing the relations between our two countries we found that our viewpoints were not always the same, but the dialogue between our countries was always constructive and positive. I like Estonia, its people and nature and I have never hidden my feelings. I am very grateful for this high award and I shall wear it with pride,'' the Russian Ambassador said.
