The President of the Republic continued his visit in Harju County

President Rüütel and Mrs. Rüütel today continued their working visit in Harju County where they met with local people, visited enterprises and tourism facilities.

Today, in the morning, the Head of State and Mrs. Rüütel visited the Freedom Fighters Museum at Lagedi and the glass factory AS Klaasimeister at Kose.

Thereafter, the President of the Republic participated in the ceremony of laying Kõue Community Center’s cornerstone and met with local people. In the words of the Head of State, the development of Estonian nation and the creation of our own state were possible thanks to our villages that kept our traditions alive, and only if we maintain the sustainability of our village life we will survive as a nation also in the future.

President Rüütel and Mrs. Rüütel had a lunch together with the members of Habja, Kõue and Paunküla village societies and discussed the importance of village societies as bearers of joint activity and culture.

In the afternoon, the Head of State visited the dendrological park of Olaf Gunnar Schmeidt, who has been awarded the Harju County’s honorary decoration, and after that he visited Jõelähtme Golf Center.

Thereafter, the presidential couple visited Viimsi new schoolhouse at Haabneeme, and Leppneeme harbour, where the village elder Arvi Piirsalu spoke about the problems of small harbours and communication with small islands. In the words of President Rüütel it is necessary to turn attention to the problems of small islands in order for people to be able to continue living there.

The President of the Republic and Mrs. Rüütel concluded the visit to Harju County visiting Viimsi St. Jacob’s Church and the Open Air Museum.
