The President of the Republic visited Rapla County05.08.2006
 President Rüütel was today on a working visit in Rapla County, where he participated in the festive closing ceremony of the international tree symposium “Varbola Tree” at Varbola hill fort and visited local enterprises.
In the morning, the head of state met with Rapla County Governor Tõnis Blank, Kohila rural municipality mayor Hillar Kalmet and Council Chairman of Kohila rural municipality Kalle Talviste, and discussed with them future prospects and problems of Kohila. The President of the Republic expressed his satisfaction that several new enterprises will be opened in Kohila rural municipality and that the unemployment rate is low, but he added that while opening new enterprises it is also necessary to pay attention to possible environmental impacts.
President Rüütel acquainted himself with Kohila new community house and sports stadium, and visited the Estonian Liberation War memorial, which was reopened on June 23.
Thereafter, the President of the Republic visited the plywood factory of AS Baltic Panel Group and Kohila branch of Tallinn Laundry that will soon be opened in Kohila.
Before noon, in Tohisoo Manor the head of state also met with Rapla County’s local government leaders who introduced the situation in Rapla County and pointed out the differences between local rural municipalities. The issue of labour shortage was discussed at greater length. In the words of President Rüütel the labour shortage is a serious problem everywhere in Estonia and in addition of increasing birth rate, it is essential that possibilities to find suitable work near one’s home place would be created for everyone.
In the afternoon, President Rüütel participated in the festive closing ceremony of the 10th international tree symposium “Varbola Tree” in Varbola hill fort. In his address, the head of state spoke of the history of forest use and protection in Estonia and expressed his satisfaction that already for the last ten years such an event that values timber and gives it new forms and purpose has been undertaken.
The President of the Republic will also visit Kuusiku Agricultural Park and research centre and will plant an oak tree in the park of Kehtna Manor, where Lennart Meri and Konstantin Päts have planted oak trees before.
Tomorrow, on August 6, President Rüütel will participate in the ceremony of signing a cooperation agreement in support of physical exercise in Läänemaa that will take place on Haapsalu Stadium, and will be present at the award-ceremony of the Läänemaa Health Run winners. The head of state will also visit the new gym of Rapla Basic School.
