The President of the Republic continued his working visit to Hiiumaa

President and Mrs. Rüütel today continued their working visit to Hiiumaa where they visited Suuremõisa manor complex and acquainted themselves with enterprises and local life in Hiiumaa.

Last night President Rüütel opened the Baltic 7 Youth Sports Games. In his opening address the President of the Republic said that in hospitable Hiiumaa the young sportsmen are ambassadors of their home island and are representing its peculiarities, customs and culture and should fulfil their mission with pride.

In the morning the head of state drove a nail in Tubala pole to mark the donation made to the Kõpu Lighthouse Foundation in support of the development of culture in Hiiumaa. Thereafter President and Mrs. Rüütel visited Suuremõisa Technical School and Basic School, the sports hall and the youth centre where director of Suuremõisa Basic School Ene Urman and director of Suuremõisa Technical School Endel Lepisto showed them the Suuremõisa manor and spoke about its development project.

After that the President of the Republic and Mrs. Rüütel familiarised themselves with Vaemla Wool Factory, Käina Church and community house, Orjaku harbour, Dagen Haus holiday home and Kuriste Church. President Rüütel expressed satisfaction with the development in Hiiumaa and said that Hiiumaa has every opportunity for further development and commended the enterprises that he had visited for contributing to the preservation of local culture and traditions.

From Hiiumaa the President of the Republic and Mrs. Rüütel will proceed to Saaremaa where tomorrow the head of state will hand over the village flag to Panga village. President and Mrs. Rüütel will also visit the Kuressaare Opera Days.

On July 29 and 30, President Rüütel will participate in the celebration of the 40th anniversary and national convention of the Estonian Society for Nature Conservation in Saaremaa.
