The President of the Republic met with the Foreign Minister of Romania
21.06.2006

President Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with the Foreign Minister of Romania Mihai-Răzvan Ungureanu.

Both sides mutually agreed that relations between Estonia and Romania are good and friendly, but there is still room for further development of contacts between the two countries. In the words of Foreign Minister Ungureanu there are many more opportunities to develop our relations bilaterally but soon also in the context of the European Union on the basis of our common interests. According to his assessment the current state of trade relations between Estonia and Romania is not yet on a satisfactory level.

The Head of Estonian State stressed the necessity to promote economic relations and pointed out that for further development it is necessary for Estonia and Romania to cooperate in order to modernize the road network connecting the two countries. Foreign Minister Ungureanu supported that opinion and added that for further strategic development of relations it is necessary to mutually open embassies in both countries and to launch concrete joint projects in different fields.
