PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The busts of former presidents will be unveiled in the Rose Garden of the Office of the President

Tomorrow, June 20, at 5 pm a ceremony of unveiling the busts of President Päts and President Meri will be held in the Rose Garden of the Office of the President. The event will be held within the framework of the celebrations of the 15th anniversary of the restoration of Estonia’s independence, and the ceremony is open to all.

The President of the Republic Arnold Rüütel will make an opening address. Matti Päts and Toomas Hiio will also speak. The Orchestra of Estonian Defence Forces, the Male Choir of the Academy of Sciences and the Engineers’ Male Choir (conductor Kuno Areng) will perform at the ceremony.

A bronze copy of the portrait of Konstantin Päts (1937), created by Ferdi Sannamees, and a bronze copy of the portrait of Lennart Meri (2000, plaster) created by Mare Mikoff will be placed in the Rose Garden. A council consisting of artists, sculptors, city representatives and family members of both presidents chose the busts.
