PRELIMINARY NOTICE: The busts of former presidents will be unveiled in the Rose Garden of the Office of the President

On Tuesday, May 20, at 5 pm, the ceremony of unveiling of the busts of President Päts and President Meri will be held in the Rose garden of the Office of the President of Estonia. The event will be held within the framework of the celebrations of the 15th anniversary of the restoration of Estonia’s independence, and the ceremony is open to all.

A bronze copy of the portrait of Konstantin Päts (1936), created by Ferdi Sannamees, and a bronze copy of the portrait of Lennart Meri (2000, plaster) created by Mare Mikoff will be placed in the Rose Garden. The busts were chosen by a council consisting of artists, sculptors, city representatives and family members of both presidents.

In the words of President Rüütel upholding the memory of both presidents will emphasise the principle of legal continuity of the Republic of Estonia and will help to strengthen the sense of dignity of people in their attitude towards the state.
