The President of the Republic attended the final concert of Nordic - Baltic Male Choirs Festival
27.05.2006

President Arnold Rüütel today attended the final concert of Nordic-Baltic Male Choirs Festival and the 25th All-Estonian Day of Male Choirs at Saku Arena.

In his greeting address, the President of the Republic underlined that our song festivals are not only festivities for our singers and choral conductors; they are also star events of Estonian culture and instrumental in preserving our national identity. “The feeling of unity created by singing together has shaped the values of many generations, but also our national self-consciousness and have thus helped us to restore Estonia’s independence 15 years ago,” President Rüütel said.

“At first only male choirs participated in the festivals. And also till now, male choirs and boys’ choirs are highly anticipated performers on the occasion of our national holidays. There is no doubt that today’s event where both experienced and young male singers from Nordic and Baltic countries sing together is a highlight moment for people in Estonia who love choral singing,” the Head of Estonian State said.

Today’s concert was the final concert of the 1st Nordic-Baltic Male Choirs Festival and the 25th All-Estonian day of Male Choirs. Male choirs from Sweden, Iceland, Finland and Latvia and Estonian male and boys’ choirs were singing at the concert.
