In the words of the President of the Republic, Estonian-Sino relations have progressed rapidly over the last decade and are currently in a very good state. ''We have regular political dialogue with China that is marked by very good relations between the leaders of our two states. Last year I had an opportunity to visit China. I have the most pleasant recollections of that visit. Please convey my best greetings to the President of the People's Republic of China, Mr. Hu Jintao, who cordially hosted us. I have very pleasant memories of the meetings with him. I am also looking forward to his visit to Estonia,'' President Rüütel said.

The Head of State noted that Estonia's economic cooperation with China has become ever more intensive, but we should use the existing potential even more skilfully. ''Last year, the economic growth in both countries was about 10 percent, and I believe that one of the main tasks of the China-Estonia Joint Commission on Economic and Trade Cooperation is to find out areas that are of mutual interest and benefit both sides,'' the President of the Republic added.

In the words of the Chinese Ambassador, the visit of President Rüütel to the People's Republic of China in summer 2005 gave a strong impetus to the growth of friendship and cooperation between Estonia and China. She added that China attaches great importance to developing its relations with Estonia and regards Estonia as a trustworthy friend and partner in the Baltic Sea region.
