10.03.2006

President Arnold Rüütel met with Lila Subirán de Viana, Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina.President Arnold Rüütel, today, at Kadriorg, received Lila Subirán de Viana, Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina, who presented her Letter of Credentials.

In the words of the President of the Republic, since Estonia's integration into the European Union and NATO, the time has come when we can and have to pay more attention to developing our relations also with the countries that are further away from Europe.

''Estonian-Argentina trade and economic relations certainly need to be broadened and deepened. In order to know each other better, we both have to do a lot of work. I believe that mutual exchange of business delegations will certainly facilitate that process,'' President Rüütel said.

In the words of the Ambassador of Argentina, the small but very highly appreciated Estonian community that lives in Argentina has also definitely influenced the deep ties of friendship between our two countries. The Ambassador stressed that Argentina was the first Latin American state to officially recognise the Republic of Estonia, both in 1992 and after the restoration of independence in 1991.
