The President of the Republic met with the Foreign Minister of Colombia

President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Foreign Minister of the Republic of Colombia, Carolina Barco.

The Colombian Foreign Minister gave an overview of the traditional stability of her country and of the latest developments, but also of the problems her country has to face, fighting against drug trafficking and illegal armed groups. Barco admitted that though certain progress has been achieved, the country still faces many challenges and therefore good relations with the EU member states and their assistance are very important to Colombia.

In the words of the President of the Republic, Estonia is ready to share its experiences with Colombia in the fileds of reform and building a civil society. In the words of President Rüütel, Estonia is an active participant in the EU and NATO endeavours, and is ready to facilitate the development of Colombia within the framework of the cooperation between the EU and the Andean Community.
