President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark

Taani President Arnold Rüütel received the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Kirsten Rosenvold Geelan who presented her Letter of CredentialsPresident Arnold Rüütel received today at Kadriorus the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark Kirsten Rosenvold Geelan who presented her Letter of Credentials.

The President of the Republic admitted that the relations between Estonia and Denmark were very good - close and trust-based Estonian-Danish relationships, which involve all fields, are sustained from numerous historic, cultural and political common features as well as economic interests. "I consider it important to cooperate in expanding a zone of democracy adjacent to EU external borders and in ensuring clean environment in the Baltic Sea region, as well as to endeavour to prevent threats to security and prosperity," said the head of state.

President Rüütel thanked Denmark for her support to Estonia's accession to the European Union and NATO. "Your contribution to this process has been remarkable. Now we should strive together to make Europe of tomorrow more competitive than today, to increase security and social welfare," said the President of the Republic, asking the Ambassador also kindly to forward his greetings to Her Majesty Queen Margrethe II.

According to Ambassador Geelan, Estonia and Denmark are joined together through a number of common values and positions. "The close and trustful cooperation between our two countries is valued by our two governments politicians and peoples," said the Ambassador of Denmark. She added that contacts between our nations were increasing on all levels - between individuals as well as in the context of culture.
