President Arnold Rüütel in his letter to the President of the Republic of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, the President of the Republic of India A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, the President of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka Chandrika Bandaranaike-Kumaratunga, the President of the Republic of Maldives Maumoon Abdul Gayoom, the King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej and the Malaysia's supreme head of state Sultan Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Syed Putra Jamalullail expressed on behalf of himself and the people of Estonia deepest condolences to the relatives of the victims of the disastrous earthquake and tsunami, which hit the region in the early hours yesterday morning.
The letter of condolences runs: "I was deeply touched by the news of the earthquake in the Indian Ocean near Sumatra, which caused the death of thousands of people. I wish you and your people strength to overcome this frightful tragedy."
