The President of the Republic handed over the Young Artist Prize

The President of the Republic handed over the Young Artist PrizePresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg handed over this year's Young Artist Prize awarded by the President's Cultural Foundation. Anu Tali, founder and conductor of the Estonian-Finnish Symphony Orchestra, won the Prize for having presented Estonian Music to the world and cultures of various peoples to the Estonians, and for her work in organising international cooperation among young musicians.

The President of the Republic highlighted that in the persons of Anu Tali and her sister Kadri Tali we had a tandem enriching our musical life with high-level art, which within less than ten years had anchored themselves firmly in Estonia's cultural landscape.

Anu Tali at the award ceremony said: "I regard it as an advance payment in order to be in future more deserving of this honour and attention."

Anu Tali since 1997 has produced six singular concert series, such as "Maailma muusikalised pealinnad" (Musical Capitals of the World), "Inimene" (The Man), "Sümfoonia", "Musica Grande", "Kirg või kannatus" (Passion or Suffering) and this year's "A la Russe". In 2003, Anu Tali received the Echo Classic Award for an album of symphonic music by Veljo Tormis and she is now preparing a new album with works of Erkki-Sven Tüür. The Estonian-Finnish Symphony Orchestra will begin the new season with the cycle of concerts "Põhja nägu" (The Face of the North) featuring culture and music of the Nordic Countries.

The Young Artist Prize of the President's Cultural Foundation is intended for Estonian artists up to the age of 35 years, whose artistic achievements have been widely recognized, or whose artistic work and activities have considerably helped to make Estonia and its culture known in the world. The prize to the amount of 50,000 Estonian kroons is funded by Toomas Luman, Member of the Board of the Cultural Foundation, and is awarded once a year.
