President Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of Spain, Miguel Bauzį More, who is the first Ambassador of Spain to Estonia residing in Tallinn.
The President of the Republic once again offered Spain his sympathies and condolences over the bombings that last week had caused so many casualties in Madrid, and assured that this was a great tragedy for the whole of Europe. President Rüütel added that, therefore, it was of paramount importance to combine our forces against terrorism and pressure of extremist forces.
Ambassador More expressed delight at Estonia's imminent accession to both the European Union and NATO. According to the Spanish Ambassador, the enlargement of the European Union bore a profound significance for all of us: after decades of carrying a separate existence, it meant the successful reunification of the great European family on the basis of common principles and shared interests.
According to President Rüütel, Estonia highly appreciated Spain's support to Estonia's accession to the European Union and NATO.
