The President of the Republic met with representatives of EVEA
04.12.2003

President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with representatives of EVEA, the Estonian Association of Small and Medium Sized Enterprises.

Their meeting addressed possibilities to use resources from EU structural funds effectively and in accordance with the needs of entrepreneurs. The representatives of EVEA deemed it crucial that the state helped to boost entrepreneurship in regions lagging behind in entrepreneurial activities.

The representatives of entrepreneurs underscored that recently several trends detrimental to small enterprise, in regard to both legislation and the circumstance that the decision-making process just was concentrating in the capital city, had emerged in Estonia. President Rüütel and the entrepreneurs agreed that, while shaping enterprise environment, the interests of small enterprise and rural regions should be taken more into consideration, since that would be in the interests of an equitable development of the country.

The President of the Republic admitted that the raised problems played a central role in further development of entrepreneurship and promised to help solve the problems of entrepreneurs in future as well.

EVEA was established as a non-governmental organisation uniting Estonian small and medium-sized enterprises in 1988. EVEA is the oldest association of entrepreneurs in Estonia, which in December is going to celebrate its 15th anniversary.
