The President of the Republic met the Chairman of the Slovak Parliament

President Rüütel today at Kadriorg met the Chairman of the Slovak Parliament, Pavol Hrusovsky. Their discussion focused on possibilities of Estonia and Slovakia to cooperate in the European Union and NATO.

According to President Rüütel, relations between Estonia and Slovakia had always been good, and would definitely intensify after both countries have joined the European Union and NATO. The Estonian Head of State underscored in particular our interest in enlivening economic relations. The Chairman of the Slovak Parliament agreed to these positions and added that his country was following with interest Estonia's various reforms, notably of taxation and pension policies.

Pavol Hrusovsky conveyed to the President of the Republic regards from the Slovak President who is scheduled to make a state visit to Estonia early next year. President Rüütel assured that he was looking forward to the visit of the Slovak President and expressed confidence that it would be an essential step in deepening cooperation between our two countries.
