The President of the Republic met the Minister of State for External Affairs of India

President Arnold Rüütel met with the Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Digvijay SinghPresident Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with the Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Digvijay Singh, who is on a two-day visit to Estonia.

The meeting addressed bilateral relations between Estonia and India as well as Estonia's accession to the European Union and NATO. President Rüütel observed that the relations between Estonia and India were good, and, in the form of bilateral agreements, a solid foundation had been laid for them. At the same time, the President of the Republic noted that there was ample room for further development, and added that we, therefore, expected Indian business delegations to visit Estonia, which would facilitate the establishment of direct contacts with Indian business circles.

Minister Digvijay Singh emphasized that representatives of Estonian firms were welcome to large trade fairs each year taking place in New Delhi and other Indian cities. The Vice-President of India, accompanied also by a business delegation, is scheduled to visit Estonia in May 2004.

Both the Estonian Head of State and the Indian Minister of State were confident that our political, economic and cultural relations continued to deepen for both countries benefited form Estonia's rapid development and growing competitiveness.
