The President of the Republic met the Ambassador of the Philippines30.10.2003
 President Rüütel today received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of the Republic of the Philippines, Victoria S. Bataclan.
The President of the Republic noted that relations between Estonia and the Philippines were just only beginning to take shape but their mutual interest and support were growing in parallel with the increase of knowledge of each other and expansion of contacts. President Rüütel congratulated the Republic of the Philippines on its election as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the term 2004-2005.
The Ambassador of the Philippines extended to President Rüütel the warm greetings of the President of her country, Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo, and 78 million Philippinos. Ambassador Bataclan deemed it necessary to promote Estonian-Philippine bilateral relations, notably in the field of trade and tourism.
President Rüütel agreed with her idea that the Estonian-Philippine bilateral relations and cooperation in the international arena needed to be developed further, and wished the Ambassador success in her mission promoting relations between our countries.
