The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Croatia

President Rüütel received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, Marin AndrijaševicPresident Rüütel today received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of the Republic of Croatia, Marin Andrijaševic.

The President of the Republic noted that Estonia and Croatia as good partners in the years and decades ahead had many chances of supporting in a friendly manner each other in various undertakings, and of working together in the interests of the whole of Europe.

President Rüütel added that Estonia took great interest in strong encouragement of the whole range of various contacts and existing good relations with Croatia, including those between the presidents, parliaments and diverse ministries.

Ambassador Andrijaševic contended that Croatia would never forget that Estonia was among the first states to recognize Croatia. He added that the peoples of Estonia and Croatia had similar histories, and both peoples had always preserved their national identity based on European values.

Both the President of the Republic and Ambassador Andrijaševic recollected the official visit of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Stjepan Mesič, to Estonia in the spring of 2003, which gave a fresh impetus to friendship and cooperation between the two countries.
