The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Moldova

President Rüütel received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of Moldova, Ilie VanceaPresident Rüütel today received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of Moldova, Ilie Vancea.

The President of the Republic observed that although the history of relations between Estonia and Moldova was relatively short, the relations had developed in a friendly atmosphere respecting each other’s interests. President Rüütel expressed hope that mutual accreditation of ambassadors gave a fresh impetus to the development of our interstate cooperation and opened new opportunities to advance relations.

According to the Ambassador of Moldova, he was desirous to bring the Estonian-Moldavian relationship under new political conditions to a new level and to strengthen our bilateral cooperation. According to the Ambassador, Moldavia was optimistic about the development prospects of the relations between our two countries.

President Rüütel assured that Estonia had consequently advocated a complete and unconditional withdrawal of Russian troops from Moldova. The President of the Republic added that, together with other European countries, Estonia, too, decisively supported Moldova in its pursuit of entering the European political, economic and defence integration, and tried to contribute to that by developing fruitful bilateral relations.
