The President of the Republic met with Juhan Parts
15.10.2003

President Arnold Rüütel continued his discussions on the objectives and contents of the National Agreement with the leaders of the political parties represented in the Riigikogu, which he had launched yesterday, by meeting this afternoon at Kadriorg the Chairman of Res Publica, Prime Minister Juhan Parts.

The Head of State and the Chairman of the Board of the Public Understanding Foundation, Aadu Luukas, attending the meeting, noted that the National Agreement was a process growing out of the Estonian society, in which social problems had accumulated, peoples’ alienation from power was on increase and our national survival had become uncertain. That was the very reason why the agreement’s initiators and experts had focused on our demographic situation, family, child and education. By now, more than 40 citizens' associations, political parties, universities and organisations governed by public law had expressed willingness to join the process as equal contracting parties.

Juhan Parts in his capacity as the Chairman of Res Publica said that the discussion about the agreement, in terms of constructiveness, had not yet reached such a stage where their party were ready to sign it.
