The President of the Republic thanked the Ambassador of Japan
14.10.2003

Japanese Ambassador Norimasa Hasegawa today at Kadriorg paid a farewell call on President Arnold Rüütel who thanked the Ambassador for his contribution to the development of cooperation between Estonia and Japan.

The President of the Republic observed that Estonia and Japan had good and stable relations, and our opportunities for cooperation could be expected to increase after Estonia's accession to the European Union.

The Japanese Ambassador noted that during the last three years, in which he had visited different places around Estonia, our country had become close to his heart and that, after his return to Tokyo, he intended to continue developing relations between Japan and Estonia.

They also discussed how to deepen our mutual economic relations, which were likely to have good prospects particularly in the field of information technology and tourism.

President Rüütel thanked the Government of Japan for the assistance given to the Estonian culture and education.
