President Arnold Rüütel, who today with the leaders of the political parties represented in the Riigikogu started talks on the National Agreement, at noon at Kadriorg met with the Chairman of the People's Party Mõõdukad, Ivari Padar.
According to Ivari Padar, the party led by him supported the conclusion of the National Agreement. As the first reason for that, the Chairman of the People's Party Mõõdukad put forward the agreement's social dimension and orientation at finding equilibrium in the development of Estonian society. In the estimation of the People's Party Mõõdukad, the existence of urgent social problems testified to the need for the conclusion of the National Agreement.
President Rüütel thanked the People's Party Mõõdukad for their participation in formulating the agreement's part on coinciding interests of different social players and their support to the National Agreement.
Their meeting also touched upon the new economic environment to emerge in Estonia after its accession to the European Union and the aspects of tax policy, which Swedish Prime Minister Göran Persson had addressed in his statement made last week in Helsinki.
