The President of the Republic in Malta opened a business seminarPresident Rüütel this afternoon opening an Estonian-Maltese business seminar at the Chamber of Commerce of Malta called upon local businessmen to establish economic relations with Estonia.

"The fact that the citizens of both Malta and Estonia have said yes to the European Union emphasizes our common values and similar visions of future. Our yes confirms that we have understood that acting together and deepening our economic relations, we can create a better environment for the growth of our people's well-being," the President of the Republic said.

President Rüütel in his address provided a brief overview of Estonian business environment and possible areas of cooperation between Estonian and Maltese businessmen.

Meelis Atonen, Minister of Economic Affairs and Communications, accompanying the Estonian Head of State in Malta also spoke at the seminar. The Minister gave an overview of the Estonian economic development and investment climate. President of Chamber of Commerce and Industry Toomas Luman acquainted the audience with Estonian business environment more thoroughly.

Subsequent to the seminar, Chairwoman of Enterprise Estonia Tea Varrak signed a cooperation agreement with Malta Enterprise. The agreement regulates the participation of the two organisations in advising entrepreneurs and in organising diverse events, and is designed to encourage international business activities of Maltese and Estonian enterprises.
