The President of Latvia congratulated the President of the Republic14.09.2003
Latvian President Vaira Vike-Freiberga after ten o'clock this evening called President Rüütel. The Latvian President was interested in the results of the vote and congratulated the President of the Republic and the people of Estonia on the positive outcome of our referendum. The President of Latvia was the first Head of State to congratulate President Rüütel on the outcome of the EU referendum.
The two Presidents also talked about probable results of Latvia's EU referendum due in a week. The Estonian Head of State expressed his conviction that Latvia's results would definitely be positive too. In conclusion, President Vike-Freiberga wished the cooperation between Estonia and Latvia, proven to be excellent already during the Baltic Chain, to continue also in the European Union.
