President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Chairwoman of the Riigkogu Ene Ergma and Prime Minister Juhan Parts to discuss the way our EU information campaign develops.
Head of the European Union Information Secretariat Hannes Rumm spoke about the results of last public opinion polls and the way the campaign was going. According to Rumm, there had been no significant changes in support to the accession, and, in the estimation of sociologists, the expected referendum turnout was 70%. According to the last opinion polls, the proportion of "yes" voters should amount to around 70%. They also talked about how the campaign ad "Is Russia a friend?" might have affected the public sentiment.
At a press conference following the meeting, President Rüütel, the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu and the Prime Minister called on the residents of Estonia to take part in the referendum and say "yes".
It was decided at the meeting that the President of the Republic, the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu and the Prime Minister in the evening of the referendum day, after the voting result have arrived, meet at Kadriorg in order to address the press and answer journalists questions.
After the press conference, the President of the Republic, the Chairwoman of the Riigikogu and the Prime Minister left for the Embassy of Sweden to make jointly an entry in the book of condolences.
