The President of the Republic continued touring Viljandimaa02.09.2003
 This afternoon, the President and Mrs Rüütel in Viljandimaa visited the Village of Kuhjavere.
Having familiarized themselves with village societys doings, they talked with local residents. The President voiced his delight that the residents of Kuhjavere were active and cheerful, and besides, had a positive approach towards the European Union. The Head of State contended that the EU attached importance to rural life and activities of civil associations, which would give Estonian villages new chances of development. After the meeting, the President and Mrs Rüütel planted an oak tree at the villages stone.
Thereafter, Mrs Ingrid Rüütel familiarized herself with the Day Nursery of Väikemõisa, but the President of the Republic called at the meat processing firm AS Oskar, which as raw material uses, according to its Director Aldo Padrik, only meat and high-quality meat mixture. In Presidents view, this created good preconditions for making organic products. In the Directors estimation, Estonias accession to the European Union gave the production of organic food a fresh impetus.
The President of the Republic from there travelled to Viljandi where he had a conversation with Mayor Malle Vahtra and Chairman of the Council Arnold Kimber. The Mayor contended that Viljandi and its residents were doing well: a recently launched long-term programme for developing computer networks also would bring fresh blood into the town. According to the Council Chairman, repayment of big loans was a heavy burden for many local governments. In addition, they discussed opportunities to modernize vocational education holding a closer cooperation between schools and businesses for the most important of them.
 In the evening, President Rüütel opened a new gym of the Basic School of Paistu. In his address, he highlighted the opportunities of self-realization and diversification of out-of-class activities offered the children by facilities like these. "Although our people over the last decade have achieved a lot, they also have lost quite a lot, and these losses manifest themselves, first of all, in health indicators. The complex opened today will help to make up for those losses," the President said at the opening of the gym.
The President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel will continue their tour of Viljandimaa by visiting tomorrow local enterprises.
