The President of the Republic received Ambassadors of the Republic of Estonia
01.08.2003

The President of the Republic this evening at Paslepa received Ambassadors of the Republic of Estonia to foreign countries.

In his speech given at the reception, President Rüütel stressed that the diplomatic season having ended in several respects had been extraordinarily rapid, full of events, and thought provoking: "During this short period, the world has brought for us new challenges, and I am pleased to note that the development of Estonia has continued. To prevent us from staying behind and becoming an unimportant bystander, we have to keep pace with these challenges also in the future."

The President of the Republic said that without the contribution of its Ambassadors Estonia would not be that successful on the international stage, and thanked the Ambassadors for their indefatigable work. President Rüütel confirmed that he deemed it very important that Estonia’s diplomatic representation be expanded and strengthened both in- and outside Europe.

After the speech, the President of the Republic listened to the ideas and recommendations of the Ambassadors on what steps he could take to make Estonia’s concerted and successful foreign policy continue.
