The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of Malaysia

The President of the Republic met with the Ambassador of MalaysiaPresident Arnol Rüütel today at Kadriorg received the letter of credence of the Ambassador of the Federation of Malaysia, Jasmi Md.Yusoff.

President Rüütel said in his address that Estonia intended to deepen its contacts with countries of South-East Asia. According to the President of the Republic, Estonia was aware of the activities of ASEAN, and he believed that Estonia's upcoming accession to the European Union would break a new and favourable ground for developing relations with its Member States as well.

The President of the Republic found that more should be done in order to increase knowledge of each other and to strengthen trade ties between Estonia and Malaysia, to which reciprocal exchange of business delegations and working out of a legal basis for our relations would contribute significantly.

Ambassador Yusoff assured that he admired Estonia's pragmatic and outward politics, which had helped speed up the development of Estonian economy and improved living standards of the Estonian people. The Ambassador of Malaysia opined that there were many possibilities to promote the Estonian-Malaysian relations, notably, in the field of economy.
