The President of the Republic to mark his 75th birthday

President Arnold Rüütel on 10 May will turn seventy-five. Representatives of many state agencies, public institutions and associations as well as many individuals on their own behalf have expressed their desire to congratulate the Head of State on this occasion.

On 10 May at 8:30 am, the President will be woken up by the Estonian Male Choir Society singing accompanied by the Defence Forces Big Band Miina Härma’s ''Meeste laul''. Thereafter, the President will be congratulated by President Meri, the Chairman of the Riigikogu, Members the Government of the Republic, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, the Legal Chancellor, the Auditor General, leaders of the Bank of Estonia, former and incumbent County Governors; Members of the Academy of Sciences and the President's Academic Council, educationalists and cultural figures, representatives of agricultural producers and business world, the Diplomatic Corps, servicemen and many others.

From 12:00 till 16:00, all those willing can enter their congratulations into a congratulations book lying open on this occasion at the Presidential Palace and, between 16:00 and 17:00, meet the Jubilarian himself and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel on the square in front of the palace. In that very place, a children’s choir from the Nursery School of Männi, the Mixed Choir of the Estonian Agricultural University and the Mixed Choir of the Tallinn Unit of the Defence League will be singing, and coffeecake and tea be served.

The Jubilarian will host a festive dinner at the Kadriorg Art Museum.

On the day before, 9 May at 14:00 pm, a presentation of books written by the President will take place in the Winter Garden of the National Opera. On the occasion of the jubilee, English and Russian editions of Arnold Rüütel's memoirs and a book presenting his work as Head of State will be published.
