The state visit of the President of the Republic to Luxembourg ends today
07.05.2003

On the third and last day of his visit, President Rüütel at Chāteau de Sanem familiarized himself with the multimedia application "European Navigator", which is an electronic data basis consisting of documents reflecting key events of European history. The project made a profound impression on the President of the Republic who found that it could be accessible in Estonia too. The European Navigator is a great help for researchers, officials and students researching into history, and it comprises also documents concerning the history of the Baltic States.

President Rüütel next visited the Department of Environmental Technology of the Public Research Centre Henri Tudor at Esch-sur-Alzette where the Enterprise Estonia and the PRC Henri Tudor signed a cooperation agreement on setting up and running a high tech business incubator. The agreement, on top of that, envisages cooperation between the two institutions in carrying out research and development studies.

The President of the Republic summarizing the visit observed that the state visit had been most beneficial for the promotion of relations between Luxembourg and Estonia. The two countries already earlier had had close relations backing each other in financial and trade sectors, but of paramount importance to us was Luxembourg's political support to Estonia's efforts to join NATO and the European Union. President Rüütel also highlighted the significance of Luxembourg as one of Europe’s economic hubs, and expressed his hope that economic relations between our countries, having so far taken a back seat, would begin to burgeon soon, especially, thanks to the contacts established by our strong business delegation. In addition, the President of the Republic noted that Estonia for its part could help Luxembourg to develop relations with new neighbours of the European Union.

The state visit ends this afternoon. The President and the delegations accompanying him return to Tallinn tonight.
