The President of the Republic met with the Prime Minister19.02.2003
President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met with Prime Minister Siim Kallas for a traditional working dinner, where they focused primarily on current foreign-policy affairs, but also on topical issues of Estonias domestic life.
The Head of State and the Prime Minister talked about the memorandum of national agreement due to be signed tomorrow. President Rüütel expressed the hope that the act of concluding the above agreement helped bridge the gap between the power, the mind and the people. The Head of State indicated that although he felt great responsibility for concluding this agreement, he could not accept the proposal to be the patron thereof, for this was an agreement to be concluded on a collective basis.
At the meeting, the President also broached the subject of finding possibilities to make up for this year's budget deficit of National Opera ''Estonia''. The Prime Minister expressed the hope that the Government would find a solution to this problem.
