On the demise of Professor Aino Järvesoo
03.02.2003

I bow my head in remembrance of Aino Järvesoo.
I offer my deepest sympathy to the loved ones and adherents of
Mrs Järvesoo.

Aino Järvesoo's love to her country and people manifested itself in her actions. Having returned to her native country after decades in forced exile she tackled the task of making her dreams of a sustainable Estonian state come true. She took determined action for the purpose of making children's life in Estonia safer, enabling them to get as good an education as possible and, through it, encouraging young families. In order to materialize her dreams, Mrs Järvesoo put in her personal savings but, first of all, her extensive knowledge and mental faculties.

Aino Järvesoo has proven to all of us that one single individual, too, through her personal example and action carried by commitment can integrate both general public and political forces in the name of a fair and justified goal. I would like to thank all of those who have supported her in doing this!

Appreciating Professor Aino Järvesoo's great services to the development of science and her selfless action in the name of a better future for Estonia, the President's Academic Council invited her to be its first and, so far, the only Honorary Member.

After the demise of Aino Järvesoo, we should ask ourselves a question: who will carry on her work helping to keep alive those goals for the sake of which Aino Järvesoo so enthusiastically worked for the last years of her life?

There can be just one answer: we must do it all together. For Aino Järvesoo's aspirations equal to our constitutional rights and also duties - to safeguard the survival of the Estonian state, language and culture, the only bearer of which is our people. May the memory of Mrs Järvesoo prompt us to reach a national agreement safeguarding that Estonia will endure.
