The President of the Republic met with representatives of Rural People's Congress
05.02.2003

President Arnold Rüütel this evening at Kadriorg received members of the former initiatory committee and the present Board of the Estonian Rural People's Congress who expressed support to the President's initiative to conclude a national agreement.

The guests of the Head of State recalled that soon it will be ten years since a group of soulmates had set themselves a goal to reach in Estonia a national agreement on the future of rural life, Estonian original culture, education and local government. After a year, as a result of this civic action, Estonian Rural People's Congress assembled which, not having abandoned the goals set in those days, still is active. Thus, the members of the congress confirmed that they backed in every respect President Rüütel’s activities aimed at concluding an agreement which would take account of both our national interests and the principles of social justice, and which would serve our state as a long-term development programme.

The Head of State thanked his guests for support and called on the representatives of the Rural People's Congress to take part in concluding the national agreement.
