The President of the Republic met representatives of the Estonian Employers' Confederation
14.01.2003

President Arnold Rüütel this morning at Kadriorg met with the leaders of Estonian Employers' Confederation.

Chairman of the Board Meelis Virkebau and Manager Tiit Laja gave the Head of State an overview of the confederation's activities in representing the interests of employers so far and of its present goals as well. The President particularly acknowledged their steps directed towards facilitating social dialogue, stable economy and regionally balanced development, indicating that, in so doing, the employers would be good partners to the initiators of our national agreement.

And so, at the today's meeting they expanded on possibilities to conclude the national agreement. The representatives of employers assured that members of their confederation, just like the President of the Republic and his Academic Council, deemed it necessary that some of the major issues of a well-balanced society be discussed and an agreement concerning them be concluded. As the main issues of this kind, the Academic Council has identified our demographic situation, financing and quality of education, stability and sustainability of economic environment, and appropriate relationship between the central and local government. The employers, on their part, underscored the need to create conditions for the development of business in rural regions, since the measures taken so far had not yielded any expected results.
