The President of the Republic to make a state visit to Ukraine

The President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel on October 14-18 will make a state visit to Ukraine. To the President's entourage belong Ministers Liina Tõnisson and Heiki Kranich, Secretary of State Aino Lepik von Wirén, President of the Bank of Estonia Vahur Kraft, Director General of the Board of Border Guard Harry Hein, Member of the Riigikogu Jüri Tamm, County Governor of Pärnu Toomas Kivimägi, Rector of the Tallinn Technical University Andres Keevallik and others. The President will also be accompanied by a business delegation headed by Toomas Luman, the President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

On the first day of the visit, Monday afternoon, the official welcoming ceremony will take place in Kiev, in front of the Mariiski Palace, going to be followed by a meeting between President Rüütel and the President of Ukraine, Leonid Kuchma, and talks between the delegations of the two countries. Thereafter, the Heads of State of Estonia and Ukraine will attend a meeting of representatives of business circles. Mrs Ingrid Rüütel is going to attend a rehearsal of a folklore ensemble at the Ukrainian Concert. In the Art Gallery of Kiev-Petchorski Monastery, Mrs Rüütel will open an exibition of paintings by Mall Nukke. In the evening, the President of Ukraine will host a dinner in honour of the President of the Republic of Estonia and Mrs Rüütel.

In the morning of October 15, President Rüütel will meet the Chairman of the Ukrainian Verkhovna Rada (Parliament), Volodymyr Lytvyn, and the leaders of the Parliament's factions. Thereafter, a meeting with the Prime Minister of Ukraine, Anatoliy Kinakh, will take place. Before noon, the Estonian Head of State is going to visit the National Agricultural University of Ukraine where he will give a short lecture on the development of agricultural science in Estonia. The Estonian Head of State will also be given an honorary doctorate by the Agricultural University of Ukraine.

Tuesday afternoon, the President and Mrs Rüütel, as well as the delegations, will fly to Odessa where, later the same afternoon, they will meet the leaders of the region and city, visit the seaport and the Opera and Ballet Theatre of Odessa. Next morning, they are going to visit the Odessa Sparkling Wine Factory and to meet with local entrepreneurs. Mrs Rüütel, at the same time, will visit the Folklore Centre, the Art Museum and the Philharmonic Society of Odessa.

On October 16, in the afternoon, the President and his entourage will fly to the Crimea, heading for the village of Aleksandrovka in order to meet with the representatives of the local Estonian community. From there, for the same purpose, they will proceed to the village of Krasnodarka. The President of the Republic and Mrs Ingrid Rüütel are going to host a dinner for the local Estonians.

On October 17, the visit will be continued by visiting Crimean historical sights and enterprises. The Estonian Head of State is going to have a meeting with the leaders of the Supreme Council and Council of Ministers of the Crimea and the Representative of Ukraine's President to the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.

The President will leave the Crimea in the morning of Friday, 18 October, and return to Tallinn in the same afternoon.
