The President's Cultural Foundation announces a competition03.09.2002
The President's Cultural Foundation announces the "Young Scientist of the Year 2002" competition. In October 2000, the President's Cultural Foundation and Mr Toomas Luman signed an agreement under which the foundation awards the Young Scientist Prize funded by Mr Toomas Luman at least over the next ten years. The prize to the amount of 40 000 Estonian kroons is awarded once a year.
The Young Scientist Prize is awarded to scientists of Estonian origin up to the age of 35 having doctor's degree and doing research work at an Estonian or foreign university or research institution.
Candidates may be put up both by young scientists themselves and by their scientific supervisors; but also by their employers, members of the foundation's board and others. The candidates have to submit a written application with personal particulars and a brief CV, description of their research work, a list of their published relevant scientific works, and at least two references from their supervisors or teachers.
The prizewinner will attempt to make with Estonian universities or colleges an arrangement to give in the course of a year at least two academic lectures on his field of research free of charge. As far as possible, lectures at colleges of Estonian universities at Narva, Pärnu, Haapsalu, or elsewhere outside Tallinn and Tartu should be given preference.
The documents required for the application for the prize are to be sent not later than September 30, 2002, to the President's Cultural Foundation at the address: Weizenbergi 39, 15050 Tallinn. The prizewinner will be selected by the foundation's board that, as advisers, may involve scientists and teachers.
The last year's Young Scientist Prize went to Doctor of Medicine Allen Kaasik, senior reseacher of the Institute for Pharmacology of the Tartu University, and the "Young Scientist Prize of 2000" to molecular biologist Priit Kogerman.
