The President of the Republic met the President of Korea International Trade Association
22.04.2002

President Arnold Rüütel today at Kadriorg met the President of Korea International Trade Association (KITA), Jae-Chul Kim.

At the meeting, they spoke about promotion of economic relations and contacts between our two countries. It was stated jointly that the Estonian-Korean economic co-operation, quite modest hitherto, had good prospects, one proof of it being the co-operation agreement concluded between the Estonian Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Korea International Trade Association this morning.

Both President Rüütel and Mr Jae-Chul Kim noted that countries were unified by shared values rather than by geographic vicinity.

Jae-Chul Kim viewed the existence of ports to offer big advantages for the enhancement of trade. The President of KITA praised the high level of information technology in Estonia and called it one of the potential areas of co-operation. The President of the Republic voiced hope that Jae-Chul Kim's visit to Estonia created prerequisites for further contacts.

According to Jae-Chul Kim, the Korea International Trade Association represented more than 85 thousand enterprises giving 99 per cent of Korea's exports. The Association supports both domestic and foreign enterprises for the purpose of improving infrastructure, advancing international commercial intercourse and training specialists in foreign trade.
