The President's Cultural Foundation will assemble tomorrow
05.03.2002

The Board of the President of the Republic's Cultural Foundation will assemble tomorrow at Kadriorg. Due to the termination of the authority of the previous Board of the Cultural Foundation, the President has appointed Georg Bogatkin, Erki Holmberg, Jaan Kaplinski, Toomas Luman, Indrek Neivelt and Peeter Vähi new members of the board.

Tomorrow, the Cultural Foundation and Toomas Luman will sign an agreement to found a Young Artist Prize. The prize will be funded by Toomas Luman and awarded by the Cultural Foundation. The prize, equalling 40 000 Estonian kroons, will be awarded once a year, the first competition for the prize going to be announced in the first week of April. The prize is meant for young Estonian artists, whose achievements have been recognized or whose artistic work and activities have considerably helped to make Estonian culture known in the world.

The President of the Republic's Cultural Foundation has earlier, together with Toomas Luman, twice awarded Young Scientist Prizes, which have gone to molecular biologist Priit Kogerman and pharmacologist Allan Kaasik.

The President of the Republic's Cultural Foundation is a nonbudgetary foundation initiated by President Lennart Meri which, in order to support activities in the field of culture, education and science, accepts pecuniary donations from private persons, enterprises, organisations and associations. The activities of the Cultural Foundation are planned and managed by its Board.
