The President of the Republic is represented in Moscow by the Ambassador
17.02.2002

President Arnold Rüütel has not appointed any extra representatives to Moscow in addition to Ambassador Karin Jaani. Thus the allegations, published in the Eesti Päevaleht on February 16, of Mr Tarmo Mänd and Ms Angela Saks-Tammekand having been nominated special envoys of the President, are baseless.

False information on this issue has been spread already earlier. The Head of State is astounded by this kind of speculations founded, according to the paper, on "diplomatic sources." The President, in his talks with both the previous Foreign Minister, Toomas Hendrik Ilves, and the incumbent Minister, Kristiina Ojuland, has repeatedly assured them that, if Russia should present an official proposal for a meeting of the two Heads of State, the Office of the President, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Estonian Embassy in Moscow will prepare the visit jointly. President Rüütel continuously upholds the same position.
