Today, President Arnold Rüütel visited Ülenurme High School in the county of Tartumaa to hand a prize to the winner of the "Most Beautiful School in Estonia" competition. The prize for the most beautiful school was a carpet named Põllukummardajad (Field-worshippers) woven by Anu Raud.
In his address, the Head of State said that it is important for the future of Estonia that its priorities be home and school. He also expressed his delight that this year the prize was awarded just to Ülenurme High School to which he is linked by long-standing acquaintance.
The President of the Republic is acting as patron of the Estonian home decoration movement within the scope of which also the most beautiful school`s competition is carried out. The competition, lead by the Estonian Union of Teachers, this year took place for the third time and its subtitle was "Green schoolyard an attractive environment for learning."
The objective of the competition is to shape the values of the youth by means of activities of public benefit aiming at sustainable development. Ülenurme High School won the competition due to an open-air class project, lessons given in the schoolyard and in nature, and designing an outdoor auditorium for mathematics.
