President of the Republic met with the Foreign Minister

President Arnold Rüütel met with Foreign Minister Toomas Hendrik Ilves at Kadriorg today.
The head of state was interested in the progress of the negotiations between Estonia and the European Union and in the effect of the change of the Estonian Government on further talks.
Both the President and the Foreign Minister considered the development of good-neighbourly relations with Russia important for Estonia. President Rüütel noted with regret that certain misleading statements had been made in the press concerning a possible summit and preparations for it. The head of state assured that should the meeting take place it would be prepared together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
